APT Water’s HiPOx™ AOP Technology Proves Unbeatable in Cost Effectively Treating Elevated 1,4-Dioxane & Other VOCs Throughout 2023

Company experiences record HiPOx implementations & project proposal requests across the U.S. while it looks to expand its contaminant focus in 2024

SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA, CA (Dec 14, 2023) – Today, emerging contaminant treatment and remediation solutions company, APT Water (APT), announced significant milestones for 2023 proving its range of advanced oxidation and reduction solutions offer the most affordable, effective treatment of problematic contaminants in water and wastewater. Highlights from the year include:

A new milestone for total full-scale deployments of its HiPOx high-performance AOP technology across the U.S. including five EPA Superfund Sites and three with the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD). Most notable was an EPA Superfund Site installation in Central Long Island, New York where HiPOx achieved all 1,4-Dioxane, Trichloroethylene (TCE), and other volatile organic compounds (VOCs)-related treatment goals without the need for an air stripper or iron pre-treatment and with less cost and energy use than alternative solutions.

A record number of drinking water treatment-related HiPOx pilot system installations including several on Long Island where elevated 1,4-Dioxane has been detected in 70% of Long Island’s public water wells marking one of the most problematic regions in the country. In initial testing vs. incumbent UV AOP treatment systems, HiPOx has proven to be equally as effective but with lower operating and maintenance costs, no pre-treatment requirements, less waste, and lower power consumption.

A significant jump in bench testing contaminated water samples within APT labs as municipalities, utilities, industrial manufacturers, and government divisions feel increased regulatory pressure around the most pressing contaminants, now detectable at much lower concentrations thanks to testing tool and analytics advancements. For example, New York State was the first state to enforce a 1,4-Dioxane drinking water standard at 1 part per billion (ppb) with other states expected to soon follow forcing many organizations to address their situations.

Introduction of APT’s new turnkey Water Treatment and Remediation-as-a-Service model where customers avoid upfront investment and only pay for clean water monthly or by the gallon to make effective water and wastewater treatment attainable right now. This was possible thanks to APT’s acquisition earlier in the year by global strategic water company, Upwell Water, effectively marking a rebirth of APT in 2023.

Engagement with new manufacturing reps across the U.S. helping APT provide more local and timely system delivery and installation, operation, maintenance, and emergency response services to its end customers. APT has also re-engaged with over 100 engineering and environmental consulting firms ensuring they’re up to date on the capabilities, application range, and results of the company’s proven technologies.

“When looking back at 2023, what stands out most is that our HiPOx technology has always been viewed as a remediation or industrial wastewater treatment solution but this year, we’ve proved it also meets drinking water criteria and offers a competitive, cost-efficient treatment alternative over current UV treatment technology,” reflected APT Co-founder and President, Terry Applebury. “We’re now at the point where HiPOx has been selected on more projects that move forward due to its critical advantages over competing technologies and we expect that number to increase going forward.”

Heading into 2024, APT will continue to focus on municipal drinking water treatment, environmental remediation, and industrial wastewater treatment helping cost effectively tackle some of the most pressing and ubiquitous contaminants including 1,4-Dioxane and per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). For example, PFAS removal is already being included in some HiPOx proposals and the company’s powerful PulseOx™ In-situ chemical oxidation (ISCO) technology will also be applied to 1,4-Dioxane treatment.

Added Applebury, “From New York to Washington state, we’re proving that HiPOx is now the go-to ozone peroxide technology for organizations that want fast, effective contaminant treatment with no upfront investment.”
